This past September, the Pieces team participated in the FlutterCon USA conference in Astoria, NY. If you’ve been following Pieces, you’ll know we’re not only big fans of Flutter and Dart, but these two technologies make up almost the entire core of our front- and back-end tech stack. Naturally, we had to get to FlutterCon this year.
At FlutterCon, we didn’t just make connections, we made friends.
One of our favorite memories was how we ended up meeting the Widgetbook team in the most serendipitous way. Our booths were set up side-by-side, and from the very first day, it felt like we had a lot in common—besides the fact that we were all there because of our love for Flutter and Dart!
Why We Went to FlutterCon
FlutterCon was the perfect place to showcase the unique work we’ve done with these tools, how we’ve pushed their respective boundaries, and how they enable us to ship to tens of thousands of engineers around the world across macOS, Windows, and Linux - with relative ease 😅.
There’s something powerful about connecting in person, especially with other Flutter and Dart enthusiasts. It’s great to exchange ideas, see what others are building, how they are building it, and learn from one another.
These are the events that put you and your company at the forefront of learning the latest tips and tricks with any language or framework, and building connections that give you advantages over your competition. There’s no shortage of new tricks to discover, and we’re always looking for ways to make Pieces better and more helpful for our users.
Serendipity On Display: A New Friendship
When we arrived at the FlutterCon venue, we discovered our booth was set up right next to Widgetbook. At first, none of us knew exactly what Widgetbook was or how it would impact our development process. But as we learned more, we discovered just how lucky of a coincidence this was.
Widgetbook is a young, dynamic team of Flutter and Dart engineers, just like us, and their energy was infectious. As an early-stage startup like us, they’ve been navigating similar challenges and milestones - fundraising, hiring, and building cross-platform tools. So naturally, we immediately hit it off.
Developer Tooling & Shared Productivity Goals
One of the key things that brought us together was our shared mission to build tools that make life easier for developers. Both of our companies know firsthand how challenging it can be to market to developers and meet their needs, especially as the needs of developers evolve and change at such a rapid pace.
Widgetbook provides a toolset for Flutter developers that helps with quality assurance, testing, and visual UI development. By configuring your Flutter project with Widgetbook, you gain unprecedented insights into your UI widgets in an isolated environment. This has proven helpful for finding UI flaws, mitigating regressions, testing new features, and so much more. At Pieces, we’re excited to get deeper with our Widgetbook to see how this transforms our quality assurance processes.
At Pieces, we’re on a mission to help developers remember everything and interact with everything throughout their development workstream. Going beyond the IDE, we’re focused on aggregating and triangulating relevant context from across your workstream, and making that context work for you to write code faster, find solutions to problems, and gain next-gen insights from across your entire toolchain.
Ultimately, we have shared goals to help developers work smarter and be more productive.
Join Us For Our First Virtual Meetup With Widgetbook!
Very early on, we realized that our tools could benefit each other’s communities. We’re both working directly with individual developers, and while our solutions complement each other, they don’t compete. It made perfect sense to team up and do something special for the Flutter and Dart communities.
We’re excited to announce that we’ll be hosting a virtual meetup with Widgetbook on October 24th at 12 PM EST. During the event, we’ll dive into how you can use Pieces and Widgetbook together in a single workflow to solve real-world problems. We’ll showcase how leveraging both tools can streamline your development process, and we’ll be looking for your input on what you want to see next from our collaboration!

If you can’t make it, don’t worry—we’ll update this post with a recording afterward.
Looking forward to seeing you there!
