We recently released some exciting updates to our snippet-sharing app, which you use every time you share a Pieces shareable link.

These updates include an extensive overhaul of the web app’s UX and UI.

Let’s dive into those updates and see how the new updates impact you as a user.

User Interface Improvements

For those unfamiliar with our sharing app, it’s a web application for viewing shared snippets in your browser. It gives an excellent overview of the shared snippet and its context, like related people, sites, tags, annotations, and other forms of helpful metadata.

It also has features that your colleagues and coworkers can use, even if they are external users, like saving the snippet directly to their Pieces database.

Here’s a quick sneak peek of the new UI updates compared to the older version:

Now let's dive into what's new in the latest version of the sharing app.

Major UX/UI Improvements

New Sharing App: Light version

New Sharing App: Dark version

The new UI is much more polished and emphasizes the snippet’s presentation. It becomes easier to glance through all the available info and actions to find what you need quickly. It crosses some of the goals we had in mind when we were designing this new look like:

  • Stronger visual guidance

  • A compact layout to lay the foundation for future growth

  • Improved hierarchy & accessibility

  • Simplicity, a more modern design, and better interactivity

And our design team did a killer job bringing those ideas to life! So kudos to them 🙌

We’ve also updated how the context info is presented on the home page—more on that below!

New Snippet Context Sidebar

Sharing App Updates with the Context Sidebar highlighted

The context associated with the snippet is now shown in an independent sidebar beside the snippet on the home page. This new sidebar should help you navigate the context more easily and show more context items without scrolling so far.

What’s Next

This has been the most significant update to the sharing app to date, and we’re excited to see more features and updates coming soon.

We plan to make sharing your snippets with colleagues and friends more effortless and convenient, so stay tuned!

Pieces ❤️ Open Source

Our team has been hard at work improving the developer experience around building with Pieces SDKs.

We’ve created copilot wrappers around the Python and TypeScript Pieces SDKs to simplify the interaction with your applications by providing a more user-friendly interface to the underlying Pieces OS Client SDKs.

Now, it’s a whole lot easier to implement a conversational copilot into your app.

Check out our GitHub to learn more about our Open Source initiatives and how you can start contributing today!
