2.8.2

We're excited to bring you the latest updates to the Pieces Web Extension, version 2.8.2. In our relentless pursuit of enhancing developer experience, we're thrilled to announce more comprehensive cross-browser support. Pieces Web Extension is now compatible with Firefox, alongside enhanced support for Edge, Opera, and Brave browsers. These updates, along with a host of other improvements and bug fixes, are all designed to provide you with a more seamless and versatile experience with Pieces Web Extension. Let's delve into the exciting new features and enhancements in Pieces Web Extension 2.8.2.

Improving cross-browser support

In this update, we're thrilled to announce that we've expanded the compatibility of the Pieces Web Extension to include Firefox. This is a significant step forward, allowing users using Firefox to fully leverage the features of the Pieces Web Extension.

Additionally, we've enhanced support for Edge, Opera, and Brave browsers by adding side panel support. This improvement ensures a more seamless and integrated experience across these browsers.

Enhanced URL Tracking and Dynamic Snippet Updates

In this update, we've improved Pieces’ ability to track active tab url changes and update discovered snippets and tab-specific settings accordingly. For instance, when working with sites like ChatGPT, the URL of the tab can change without triggering a tab refresh event. With this enhancement, Pieces now monitors these changes and updates the relevant information in real-time. This ensures that the discovered snippets and settings remain accurate and relevant, enhancing the overall user experience.

Discover Code Snippets in iframes

With this latest release, we've improved the discovery of code snippets that are embedded in iframes. For example, GitHub gists embedded on Medium are presented as iframes. Previously, Pieces was unable to detect these, but now, code blocks within iframes are also identified. This improvement significantly expands the range of code snippets that Pieces supports, so you can save, share, and ask Pieces Copilot about thousands more snippets across the web.

Bug Fixes and Other Improvements

We've also made several bug fixes and improvements to UX in the Pieces for Developers Web Extension:

  • Code Editor Typing Issue: We've resolved an issue that prevented users from typing in online code editors.

  • Chat Message Actions Tooltip Persistence: We've fixed a bug that caused the chat message actions tooltip to persist even when the user was not hovering over them.

  • Site Host Blacklisting/Whitelisting: You can now blacklist or whitelist a site host. For example, blacklist/whitelist a site host like ‘example.com’ will also blacklist/whitelist all addresses under this host like example.com/page1, ../page2, etc. However, you still have the flexibility to manage the block status for each address individually.
