Common Questions
What is PiecesOS?
PiecesOS is the local engine that powers Pieces. It runs quietly in the background, handling memory, context, and AI processing on your device. It installs automatically with the Desktop App — no extra setup required.
Do I need to install PiecesOS separately?
No. PiecesOS is bundled with the Desktop App and installs automatically. The standalone PiecesOS and combined installers above are for advanced setups — most people only need the Desktop app.
Which install type should I choose?
On macOS, pick Apple Silicon for M1 or newer Macs and Intel for older ones, or Universal if you're unsure. On Windows, the .exe installer is the simplest option; .msix is for managed or enterprise deployments. On Linux, we recommend Flatpak — select Get started in the Linux row for step-by-step setup. Snap is also available.
Do I need a plan to use Pieces?
Yes. When you open the app you'll be prompted to select a plan. New users start with a 7-day free trial on any plan, and every plan includes a 14-day money-back guarantee. See plans and pricing
Does Pieces send my data to the cloud?
No. Pieces is local-first by design. Your data stays on your device by default. Cloud features like cross-device sync are optional and always under your control.
Which operating systems are supported?
Pieces supports macOS 12 Monterey or later (Apple Silicon and Intel), Windows 10 version 1809 or later, and Linux (Ubuntu 22.04+ or equivalent, installed via Flatpak).
